Term 2 Week 3 in Room 3

Welcome to another wonderful week of learning! Here are your tasks for this week.

Tuesday

Reading:
1. Pick a word/alphabet letter from the list in the back of your homework book.
Read it out, whisper it, shout it. Now try some of the following activities:
-Write it in chalk
-Paint it with water on the footpath/ on the fence/ on paper
-Rainbow write it (write it down again and again copying over it with different colours
-Make the word using individual letters cut out from junk mail or magazines and then glue in the correct order.

2. Take the new word and put it in a simple sentence. Get an adult to write out the sentence on a strip of paper. Cut each word out. Put it back in the correct order. Glue it and now draw a picture to match e.g I like the dog.
BONUS. You have just done a reading and writing activity.  Can you write 2 or more sentences?. Put them together and you have a mini book to read again and again!

Writing:
Over the weekend, we commemorated ANZAC Day. Did your family do something special to celebrate this national holiday?

Have a look at this photo. What can you see? What do you think may be happening? Where do you think this photo was taken? Have you seen a parade before?
If you get stuck you can ask somebody in your home to write the sentences for you and then you can copy underneath. You could use your alphabet caterpillar in your homework book to help you or your word list.

Maths:
Practise counting from 1 - 20.  Count as loudly as you can.  Count as quietly as you can.  How many times can you count to 20 in 1 minute?  How many times can you count to 20 while running to your mailbox and back?  Now complete this activity below.  If you can’t print it out you could draw it onto a piece of paper and fill in the gaps.

Extra:

PE: Play a game you haven’t played for a while. Can you find enough people for Duck Duck Goose in your backyard? Enjoy some fresh air outside today!

Phonics:  Print out this phonics sheet or draw it onto a piece of paper.  Find something outside your house that begins with the letter. Draw what you find.  Good luck!

Values: Showing resilience means you never give up even if it is hard.  Watch the Youtube clip of Sesame Street- Bruno Mars singing ‘never give up’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWp6kkz-pnQ

Wednesday

Reading:
Choose 2 stories to read on Sunshine Online, Literacy Planet or from your library shelf at home. Read 1 to somebody in your home and get them to read the other one to you.
Talk to the people around you - Where does this story take place? Is this story real or make believe? Would you recommend this story to a friend? Why or why not?

Writing
Go on a sticker hunt around the house. Find a fancy sticker and use it as motivation for your story today. See if you can write at least 3 sentences about your sticker today.
If you get stuck you can ask somebody in your home to write the sentences for you and then you can copy underneath. You could use your alphabet caterpillar in your homework book to help you or your word list.

Today we are going to practice the number before and the number after.  Try answering these questions:

What comes before the number 2?
What comes after the number 9?

What comes before the number 18?

Now complete this activity below.  If you can’t print it out you could draw it onto a piece of paper and fill in the gaps.

Dance: Calling all dance enthusiasts! Have a go at following along with this.  You could get an adult to film you doing the dance once you have practised a bit and send it to your teacher or upload it onto your blog. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6PmB6tMBOc

Phonics:  Today we are going to practice our listening skills in the backyard. Being able to hear and tell the difference between everyday sounds helps us to do the same with alphabet sounds. Close your eyes and listen really carefully.  What sounds can you hear outside? Which direction is the sound coming from? Do you think something big is making the sound or something small? Tell an adult the different sounds you are hearing. Remember to keep your eyes closed while you do it - no peeking!!!

Values: Respect. When we show respect to those around us, we listen attentively and use our manners. Can you think of a time when you showed respect this week? Take a photo of you making a good choice or write a story about a good choice you made.

Friday

Reading:
Today you are going to relax and listen to somebody read to you.  Ask someone in your house to read a story out aloud to you. While they read it, close your eyes and create the pictures in your mind. Have a go at retelling the story. What happened at the beginning, in the middle and in the end? Can you think of a different ending for this story?

Writing:
Go for a walk with the people in your bubble (around your garden or down the street). Put on your detective eyes. What do you notice- hear, smell, see? Come back and write a story about your walk.
If you get stuck you can ask somebody in your home to write the sentences for you and then you can copy underneath. You could use your alphabet caterpillar in your homework book to help you or your word list.

Maths:
What are the different ways that we can make 10?
If I have 9 how many more make 10?
If I have 3 how many more make 10?
If I have 2 how many more make 10?
If I have 7 how many more make 10?
If I have 5 how many more make 10?
If I have 4 how many more make 10?

Now complete this activity below.  If you can’t print it out you could draw it onto a piece of paper and fill in the gaps.

Phonics: The alphablocks are back! Watch the video.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJIuwFwW144
Write a list of all the words they made. If you’re feeling really creative, have a go at drawing some matching pictures! Read out the list to someone.
Values: You can show Responsibility by taking care of your belongings. Have a look around your room, do your toys need to be tidied up? Are all your books on the shelves neatly? Is the rubbish in the right place? When your room is tidy, check if another family member needs help to tidy their space.
